Each jar of our Live Hash Rosin is a tribute to our plants at their peak. We craft our solventless extracts from cultivars selected specifically for their hash potential. Every step that follows – from harvest to press – is performed with care and attention to harness the plant’s flavor and potency without the use of solvents. The result: a vibrant, terpene-rich concentrate with the aromatic intensity of a live grow room.
SELECTING STRAINS
Solventless hash extraction targets the trichome heads, as they contain the plant’s cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. Genetic selection is critical, and we select strains specifically for traits that make them desirable for Live Hash Rosin. Not all of our strains will meet our criteria for solventless extraction. The selected cultivars are grown to their full potential to maximize their flavor and potency in the same production rooms as our Premium Flower.
HARVESTING & FREEZING
We harvest the whole plant with solventless extraction in mind, taking extreme care when bucking flowers from the stem and breaking down larger flowers. The flower is handled gently and placed into a container to avoid damaging the delicate trichomes. After filling the container with harvested flower, we place it into the freezer, effectively pausing the loss of terpenes.
AGITATING & COLLECTING
We empty the whole plant, fresh frozen cannabis buds into a large vessel containing an ice and water slurry and agitate them. The mixture quickly settles, now thick with the trichomes we’ve been working so diligently to preserve. We collect the contents of the water with mesh catch bags of several different micron sizes. The reddish purple color shown in this image is the result of anthocyanins, a water-soluble pigment present in some strains.
SUBLIMATING
After collecting the ice water extract from the mesh bags, we dollop it onto parchment-lined trays, and place those trays into a freeze dryer to eliminate water content. This can take anywhere from 12-24 hours. Once the ice water extract is fully dried, we store it in the freezer until we are ready to being pressing.
PRESSING
To process hash into rosin, we place the dried ice water extract into nylon mesh pouches with a specific micron pore size. We sandwich the pouch between parchment paper, place it on a rosin press, and squish (yes, that’s the technical term) the pouch with gradually increasing pressure and moderate heat. The heat and pressure release the oil from inside the trichome heads, allowing it to flow through the mesh pouches and out onto the parchment paper, while the waxes that make up the trichome head sheath remain trapped inside the mesh pouch. The oily “rosin” remaining on the parchment is our final product.
PACKAGING
With the exception of Fresh Press, Our Live Hash Rosin is always cured before packaging. Fresh Press is a unique presentation, packaged immediately after press. This form is sappy and extra fragrant, but more volatile than traditional Live Hash Rosin or Live Hash Rosin Jam. The curing stage of our process is what allows the hash rosin’s texture to stabilize.
Our packaging team works carefully by hand to fill each jar to the specified weight. Thumbprints in particular require patience and a steady hand, as our packagers must form a delicate ring of rosin and carefully deposit another dollop of rosin in its center.
