GENERAL FAQ

  • Finding the best strains and products for you is a very subjective process. We all have our own goals in mind when approaching cannabis, and we also often have unique responses to a strain’s combination of cannabinoids and terpenes.

The best way to find out what meets your needs is to discuss your goals with a budtender and try a few different options. Our free health coaching sessions are a great introduction to Breakwater cannabis, and once you have a little experience under your belt, we’ll be able to make more precise recommendations.

  • THC does play an important role in potency, but it’s important to remember that it is one contributor among many. We always encourage our guests to consider the full cannabinoid and terpene profile of a strain when making a selection, as this has a significant impact on the manifestation of effects and symptom relief.

Depending on your desired outcome, a strain with lower THC may still be the most effective option because of the spectrum of other compounds it delivers.

  • “Low and slow” is our dosage mantra! Due to variable potencies and the nature of administration, dosing smokable and vapable products can be tricky, so we recommend discussing administration with a budtender if you’re completely new to flower or extracts. A “full dose” of most of our edible products is 10mg THC, but we recommend a starter dose of 2.5mg THC. For tailored dosage suggestions based on your comfort level and desired effects, talk to your budtender!

  • The terms “indica” and “sativa” are no longer appropriate for describing the effects of a strain, because all of the strains that we grow and most of the strains available commercially are hybrids. We prefer to describe the effects of a strain simply by saying “Daytime,” “Nighttime,” or “Anytime.” These terms are more transparent and beginner-friendly.

  • There are hundreds naturally occurring compounds that give the cannabis plant its medicinal effects. These compounds are called “cannabinoids”. The three cannabinoids that are most frequently focused on in the cannabis industry are THC, CBD, & CBG.

THC - Tetrahydrocannabinol is a psychoactive cannabinoid that can cause euphoria. THC can be useful for pain relief, anxiety relief, and in come cases insomnia.

CBD - Cannabidiol is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid that can useful for inflammation relief, the reduction of seizures, and reduction of spasms.

CBG - Cannabigerol is another non-psychoactive cannabinoid. It can be helpful for relieving fluid retention and can contribute to pain relief especially when used with THC.

  • Cannabinoid and terpene concentrations are listed on the dosing labels of every product we sell. If you’d like to know this information before your purchase, you can contact the dispensary via phone or email, or just come by and speak with a budtender!

  • “Solventless” refers to an extraction method which uses only ice and water to separate trichomes from the cannabis plant. The resulting mixture is strained, dried, and pressed to produce the finished product, which captures the plant’s terpenes and cannabinoids.

In our standard extraction process, we steam distill the plant’s terpenes and then use a solvent, food grade ethanol, to extract the cannabinoids. The final product contains no ethanol, as it is completely removed during the process. Terpenes are recombined with the extract to make our Single Source Extract Cartridges and Dispensers. MCT Tinctures, Lozenges, Chocolate, and our Classic Gummies all contain the extract, without terpenes, as their active ingredient.

Both our cannabis extract and our solventless cannabis extract are 100% cannabis-derived and contain no fillers or additives. The primary difference is the extraction method. Some gravitate towards solventless products as the gentler extraction may retain a broader spectrum of the plant’s active compounds.

  • When we set out to make a vapable cannabis product we committed to making the purest product that we possibly could. As such, Breakwater Concentrates don’t contain any additives whatsoever, particularly the chemical additives that have made people sick. Our concentrates contain the natural cannabinoids from our cannabis plants, the terpenes from those plants, and nothing else making them some of the safest vapable products available.

  • Not always, but frequently. As we’ve gotten busier we’ve encountered a few instances where we run out of a particular strain but we usually are able to restock within a few weeks. We also post a strain is running out on our Daily Menu so that patients can make a trip before their favorite product is out of stock.

  • All Breakwater cannabis is grown on-site in Cranbury, New Jersey. Our grow facility is a hi-tech, completely indoor environment consisting of 6 individual grow rooms.

  • At this time, our cannabis is not grown purely organically. While we add some organic inputs, we do not grow with an entirely organic program. However, we are highly selective in our choice of nutrients and pest control measures.
