Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) is a potent, full spectrum extract that may capture a more complete range of the beneficial compounds in cannabis than other forms of extract. Pioneered by Rick Simpson during his battle with basal cell carcinoma, RSO gained acclaim as he attributed his recovery to its use and began sharing his discovery publicly. His work helped propel global awareness and advocacy for the medicinal potential of cannabis.
extraction
We begin with the full spectrum extraction of cured premium cannabis material. We fill fine mesh bags with cannabis and load them into our extractor with food-grade ethanol. The ethanol extracts cannabinoids and terpenes in addition to other beneficial botanical compounds to capture the full spectrum profile of the plant. We filter the solution to remove any undesirable biomass or compounds and then remove all of the ethanol using a combination of vacuum and heat to distill the alcohol from the extract.
decarboxylation
After the ethanol is completely removed, we decarboxylate the oil. This chemical reaction occurs when we apply heat to the cannabinoid acids in the extract, such as THCA or CBDA, which are the non-psychoactive precursors found in raw cannabis. In doing so, we are converting our precursor cannabinoid acids to psychoactive compounds like delta 9 THC and CBD, respectively. The decarboxylation step is crucial to activate the beneficial effects of the final product for ingestion or topical use. This final processing step produces the dark, highly pure and potent RSO.
PACKAGING & USAGE
Our filtered and decarbed full-spectrum RSO is now ready to be either added into edibles or packaged into dispensers for wide-use applications.
RSO can be ingested or applied topically. Due to the oil’s high concentration of plant waxes and fats, it should NOT be dabbed, smoked, or vaporized. One of the most popular and effective ways to take RSO is through sublingual administration – placing it under the tongue. The mouth’s mucus membranes allow for rapid absorption of cannabinoids directly into the bloodstream.
